Birthdays with Bombaykery
First birthdays are special. All birthdays demand a little fanfare, but first birthdays set the tone for all the years to come. We recently turned one, and once we’d sorted out a location, party decorations, and an outfit we got down to serious business: the cake. Lucky for us, we found Bombaykery. 
This charming bakery was founded by partners Mitali Sahani, Manhar Sabharwal and Karan Sahani and borrows both its name as well as little slices of inspiration from its title city: a relaxed Konkan vibe, a west coast monopoly on flavours (cutting chai, filter coffee, tender coconut and kala khatta paan) and an homage to Mumbai’s graphic lines. Their menu straddles the bite-size and the bountiful, from little buttery folds of a French biscuit to the full-bodied smack of an American bundt. They do little to their core ingredient, building on the beauty of the product and of nature (they made us a naked strawberry cake that ticked every one of these boxes).

A pastry chef from the French Culinary Institute, Mitali is behind the whisk, while Manhar and Karan are behind the books and the marketing. Their delivery service is impeccable, but sometimes you just need to go sit down in a delicious little bakery that’s scented with butter, and their first-ever brick and mortar store opens in DLF’s Cyber Hub in Gurgaon this summer. Until then, of course, they continue to delivery across Gurgaon, Central and South Delhi. We also asked them a quickfire series of questions that they were kind enough to answer.
